GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - While some people spent Labor Day working, others spent the day playing, wrapping up a three day weekend. And one of the hottest play spots was the Ken Combs pier in Gulfport.
Dozens of people were on the pier Monday taking a stroll or doing some crabbing. Others were dropping their lines hoping for the big catch of the day. The weather was perfect, and so were some of the casts thrown out by the fishermen. Even the memory of the giant oil spill in the Gulf this summer couldn't spoil the mood.
"No, I have no concerns about that," fisherman Elijah Watson said. "Matter of fact, I've been living on the coast and I guess I haven't got out here enough to be able to see anything but fish. I enjoy fishing out here."
In addition to crabs, most of the anglers said they were catching good amounts of croakers, white trout, and, not surprisingly, lots of hardhead catfish.
