GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The man Gulfport was considering hiring as its new fire chief has taken a job in Texas.
On August 25th, Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel announced that David Foster, Fire Chief/Director of DeKalb County Fire and Rescue in Georgia, was his top choice to lead the city's fire department.
But Gulfport wasn't the only city interested in Foster. Just six days later, interviewed with a group of leaders in Hedwig Village, Texas. The city's website said a job offer was extended that night, which Foster has accepted.
Gulfport City Council members were scheduled to vote on Foster's nomination in the coming days. There's no word on when a new candidate will be announced.
