PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - After working five years in cramped trailers, the Pass Christian Police Department is finally about to move into its new headquarters.
"This is the greatest day in Pass Christian's history, I do believe," Police Chief John Dubuisson said.
His new state of the art police department on Espy Avenue doubles as the city's Emergency Operations Center. The 12,000 square foot facility includes plenty of work space for emergency responders, meeting rooms, sleeping quarters, even a laundry room and kitchen.
"Then you come into the police department side of it, and you've got men's, lady's locker rooms, offices for the investigators, chief, assistant chief, conference room," said Dubuisson.
It also includes a new booking room, holding cells, and special storage space for evidence.
The building is probably best described as a fortress, surrounded by 16-inch thick concrete walls, and topped with a poured ceiling. It can withstand winds of 200 miles per hour, and sits 35 feet above sea level.
Chief Dubuisson said his department will begin moving in Thursday, and they hope to be operational by the Labor Day weekend.
