United Way agencies in South Mississippi begin their annual campaigns this week to raise funds to help the local community. This year more than ever there are so many agencies and needs that could use your help. Your local United Way organization provides a safety net for help in the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.
Just recently hundreds of pounds of food were collected by United Way and their partners to help local food banks that were running low on provisions. United Way also works on health initiatives such as children's mental health services in schools. Your United Way dollars also help improve our early childhood education options here in South Mississippi. They support providing low income youngsters with library books so they can reach their potential.
Many South Mississippi companies allow their employees to make a contribution and deduct so much per week or month from their pay check. In fact some companies match what their employees contribute. If you work at a company where United Way does not run a campaign, ask your manager to contact the United Way and learn how it can be set up at your company.
No gift is too small. If we all could give up one snack a day, which might cost a dollar, your yearly gift would be close to four hundred dollars.
Remember by reaching out a hand to one, you influence the condition of all. So Live United. Together, we truly can make a difference.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org, or post your comments below.
