Biloxi Jr. High accidentally calls hundreds of parents about absent child

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - BILOXI, MS (WLOX) – Biloxi parents, don't worry. Your child most likely is at school today.

The Biloxi School District's Connect-Ed automated phone system accidentally called out to all 1,141 junior high students' homes this morning saying their child was absent. The message was supposed to just go to the parents of 72 students.

A follow up call was made within 30 minutes asking to disregard the message, but that didn't reach everyone in time. Some parents called or went to the school, worried that their child skipped class.

"The Connect-Ed messages are an important tool we have to let parents know what's going on at schools in the district," Superintendent Dr. Paul A. Tisdale said. "In this particular case, the employee made a slip of a key stroke. Instead of checking the box that said to send the message to specific recipients, they checked the box that said 'all.' We've reviewed the procedures with employees to make sure this does not happen again.

"We certainly apologize for the inconvenience. I don't think this is the way anyone wanted to start off the week."
