Economic development lures state lawmakers back into session

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - A special session of the state legislature gets underway later this morning. Governor Haley Barbour called the session to consider an incentive package for KiOR, a biofuels company that is going to build five biofuel production facilities in our state.

The Texas based company plans to invest $500 million in the project. It is expected to generate about a thousand jobs and bring in $85 million in wages and Mississippi purchases.

Also on the special session agenda, a proposal to ban spice state-wide and a proposal for D'Iberville to purchase, and later lease city owned land to developers for 99 years.

The special session gets underway at ten this morning and WLOX.com and WLOX News will bring you what happens as lawmakers' decisions unfold.
