GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Mayor George Schloegel has selected a man from DeKalb County, Georgia to be the city's new fire chief. David Foster has been fire chief in DeKalb County in metro Atlanta since 2003.
Mayor Schloegel will recommend Foster to the Gulfport City Council Tuesday. The council must ratify the mayor's choice for chief.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Foster sent two groups of firefighters to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to assist with recovery efforts.
Foster has a bachelor's degree from Bellevue University in Nebraska.
