Chicken pox cases cancel Biloxi's season opener

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Biloxi-South Jones football game scheduled for Friday night has been canceled because two Biloxi students have been diagnosed with the chicken pox.

According to the Biloxi Public Schools website, "school leaders have canceled this evening's football game and other upcoming sporting events, and advise all parents to closely monitor their children for symptoms."

Also canceled or postponed: a volleyball game at Our Lady Academy and a mini-cheer clinic, both of which had been scheduled for Saturday; and a junior-varsity football game that had been scheduled for Monday at George County.

The volleyball game at OLA is part of a tournament, which will go on as scheduled. Only Biloxi's game was canceled.

Parents of all Biloxi Public Schools students were notified Friday about the two cases through the school's automated telephone messaging service.
