BILOXI, MS (WLOX) – The anticipation about Brett Favre and his future in the NFL is just about over. WLOX News just obtained a news release from the Minnesota Vikings. The first sentence confirmed what most people predicted. It said, "Brett Favre will address the media from the Winter Park field house after the team's 11:40 am practice today. Head Coach Brad Childress will be available immediately following."
ESPN is reporting that Favre would be on the practice field with the Vikings today, and that his 20th season in the NFL had officially started.
Tuesday, Favre was in Hattiesburg, and speculation continued about whether his ankle was healthy enough for him to play this season. By mid-afternoon, Favre and three Vikings teammates boarded a private jet and flew from Mississippi to Minnesota. One of those teammates was kicker Ryan Longwell. He told the media Favre said 'yes' when asked if he would play this year.
The Hancock County native and USM star has just three pre-season games to get ready for the 2010 opener. As you know, Minnesota's first game is September 9, in New Orleans against the Super Bowl champion Saints. The Superdome is where Favre threw a late game interception, thwarting a chance for the Vikings to win the NFC Championship.
After the news conference, WLOX will head over to Hancock County and talk with Favre fans about the legendary quarterback's decision to return to Minnesota.
