Biloxi church celebrates 20 years

By Jessica Bowman – email

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Abundant Life Evangelistic Center in Biloxi is celebrating 20 years of service to the ministry and the community. Sunday evening, the church, off Rodenburg Avenue honored its Pastor, Jason Johnson, as part of its ongoing commitment to bring new life to the city.

DeB'orah Draytonward said, "It's explosive and energizing. We're celebrating what God has done through this man of God that impacts the kingdom of God and the fact that he ministers to all colors and all denominations."

DeB'orah Draytonward has been a member of the church for several years. She said on this night through praise and worship Pastor Jason Johnson was honored.

"A man of faith, motivated by love. That definitely describes who Pastor Johnson is," said Draytonward.

As hands were raised and lyrics were sung Pastor Johnson stood on the front row returning the gratitude to men, women and children he has helped along the years.  He said they are all family and that is what keeps the church alive.

"Churches have to be strong and work together with good leadership. And certainly I feel like God has blessed me in 20 years to be here and advance the kingdom of God," said Pastor Jason Johnson.

The Abundant Life Evangelistic Center's leader said their unity is a blessing. And the church has gone many miles to be where it is today.

"I started the church with just my family. We started meeting at a home, prayer meeting and eventually a small building," said Johnson.

Now more than 300 members worship in a building on Rodenburg Avenue.

DeB'orah Draytonward said, "It's where our roots run deep. And not only that, when you meet this man he is still preaching with joy."

The Abundant Life Evangelistic Center has expanded its ministry in South Mississippi with a church in Hattiesburg.
