PERKINSTON, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi Gulf Coast head coach Steve Campbell has built the Bulldogs into one of the top junior college football programs in the nation.

Under extreme heat, the Bulldogs opened fall drills today after posting 9 wins and 3 losses last season and a number 8 national ranking. Gulf Coast is ranked number 5 in the JUCO preseason poll.

Campbell said, "You now they kicked the season back a week.  We play a game three weeks from Thursday which is the shortest preseason camp that I've ever been through. So it doesn't give you a whole lot of time to prepare."

We've got a long way to go and a short amount of time to get there but the guys are working really hard. We need to make sure that we improve in each practice, each walk through and each lifting session. Each time we're over here we've got to get better.

The Bulldogs must replace most of the offense and several key players one defense.

"We've got a long way to go and a short amount of time to get there but the guys are working really hard," Campbell explained.  "We need to make sure that we improve in each practice, each walk through and each lifting session. Each time we're over here we've got to get better."

In six seasons at Gulf Coast, Coach Campbell has rung up 50 wins, 14 defeats and has one National Junior College Football Championship trophy.
