South Mississippi, Panama airports agree to share, learn from each other

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (WLOX) - Monday Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, Panama made it official. They are now sister airports.

The final signing of the sisterhood agreement took place Monday in Panama. The agreement means among other things,  the two airports will work together and learn from each other in order to grow exports and imports.

Back on April 15, Tocumen International Airport officials came to South Mississippi and signed their part of the sisterhood agreement. Monday, the process became complete when Gulfport Biloxi International Airport Director Bruce Frallic signed South Mississippi's part.

"The agreement provides for opportunities for the two airports to work together in a lot of different areas," Frallic said. "For example, they will share info. Airports are airports so they share the same issues and challenges. So they will share info on development, construction and technical aspects, as well as, security for both the domestic and international environment."

Frallic added, "They will do employee exchanges of airport employees to learn how each airport does things."

The airports are also working on an air cargo project that Frallic said, "has been ongoing, but is getting closer to fruition."

The sisterhood agreement will also help companies at the airport like Republic Parking and Million Air explore expanding into Tocumen International Airport.
