MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - A trio of Moss Point firefighters needed medical treatment after putting out an afternoon blaze. But by early Sunday night, all three firemen were released from the hospital.
The Moss Point Fire Department responded to a house fire on Third Street around 2 pm. WLOX News learned late Sunday night the house on fire belonged to Moss Point fireman Woodrow McCarthy. We're told he was at church with his family when the fire ignited.
While battling the smoke and flames, three city firefighters were overcome by heat and taken to an emergency room. According to firemen on duty Sunday night at Moss Point's main fire station, the injured rescue personnel were treated for heat exhaustion and then sent home.
Every room inside McCarthy's burning home was destroyed. According to investigators, the fire started in the kitchen, although they're not sure how it ignited.
