D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Two days after outlawing spice in D'Iberville, the police department began confiscating the herbal incense from stores.
Police call the substance a synthetic form of marijuana that gives users a pot like high. D'Iberville is the latest South Mississippi community to crackdown on spice.
Though spice is the commonly used name, the herb is packaged and sold under several labels.
Police seized the herbs they found in plain sight at businesses Thursday as they went to alert merchants of the city's ban.
Sellers received flyers explaining the new law and told them the material had to be removed from the city immediately.
D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne said he want to make sure businesses and citizens are aware of the new law before his officers start making arrests. He said his agency will not arrest any merchant or citizen in violation of this order until everyone has been notified.
Chief Payne invites any merchant who has questions concerning this ordinance to contact Captain Keith Davis at 228-396-4252.
