South Mississippians fight back against crime

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Communities across South Mississippi and the country are taking a stand against crime. Tonight Gulfport, D'Iberville and Long Beach all are holding Night Out Against Crime events.

The annual night outs began 27 years ago to help bring residents, businesses, neighborhoods, civic groups and law enforcers together to heighten awareness regarding crime and drug prevention. The goal is to send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Gulfport is hosting a community watch block party tonight at West Side Park. D'Iberville invites you to meet the police behind the badges at the D'Iberville Civic Center. And Long Beach's National Night Out Against Crime is at War Memorial Park. All of the programs begin at 6pm.

WLOX News will cover Night Out Against Crime and show you how South Mississippians are fighting back against crime on WLOX.com and WLOX News.
