BILOXI, MS (WLOX/AP) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation's Executive Director was arrested Friday morning in Biloxi.

Biloxi Police officers arrested Larry "Butch" Brown around 5:30am at Beau Rivage. He's charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication, which are both misdemeanors.

Investigators say Brown fell asleep at a slot machine at the casino, then got into an altercation with a casino security guard.

Brown was held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center until his release on $480 bond. The case is pending action in Biloxi Municipal Court.

Brown told The Associated Press he was playing a penny slot machine at Beau Rivage casino around 3am, when a security guard told him he had dozed off. Brown said the guard told him to leave the property, but Brown argued that he wanted to go to his hotel room upstairs. The arrest followed.

Brown said he was on the Gulf coast to make a speech to the Mississippi Economic Development Council. The 67-year-old said he'd had wine with dinner and other alcohol in the casino.

Beau Rivage spokeswoman Mary Cracchiolo-Spain said there was a "misunderstanding" that resulted in police being called. She said the casino considers the case closed.
