Two die, one critical after accident at MS/LA state line

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Two people are dead after a drive home from a summer vacation turned tragic Thursday night.

Five people were in a Toyota Four Runner traveling west on Interstate 10 when one of their tires blew out near the Louisiana state line.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Corporal Johnny Poulos said the driver and two passengers were thrown from the vehicle.

One of those killed was the driver, Elden K. Cox, Jr., 20, of Denham Springs, Louisiana. Tyler S. Brewer, 22, also of Denham Springs, was also ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Chase K. Richard, 21, of Baton Rouge, was ejected from the vehicle and is in critical condition at Oschner Hospital in New Orleans.

Two sisters, Kelsi A. Wallin, 18, and Eleisa R. Wallin, 20, of Baton Rouge were taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Poulos said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
