Make a Wish grants a four-legged wish

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) – What little girl doesn't want the chance to be a princess or to find her prince? One young girl fighting Leukemia got just that and more Thursday thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.

"[She's a] super child. Great courage. Fighter, with a positive attitude in a bad situation," said Lucedale Mayor Doug Lee of seven-year-old Alex Murry.

Murry has been fighting acute Leukemia for nearly a year.  However, you wouldn't know it from her attitude.  Now on her last stages of Chemotherapy, Murry's hometown granted her a special honor: a mayoral resolution named her Princess of Lucedale.

But every princess needs her prince, and Murry made a specific request.

"She wanted a Mississippi State University English bulldog puppy," explained United States Marine Incorporated Contracts Manager Lynette Flores.

The Make a Wish Foundation teamed up with USMI to find the perfect four-legged prince.

At a princess themed birthday party, Make a Wish and USMI surprised Murry with a new pup she dubbed Loverboy.

"He's going to be loving on me a lot, and he's going to be under me all the time. If I move one second, if I'm gone to get me something to drink he's going to be calling back to me," Murry said after asking her mother if the puppy was really hers.

Murry has big plans for Loverboy.  She hopes to train him in pet therapy so he can visit hospitalized children.

"It's been very exciting especially to see the look on her face and know that everything has happened about all the dreams come true and not only from what she's been through but this will go on and be happy memories," said Murry's mother, Leanne.

Murry will end her chemo treatments in September and then begin the maintenance treatments.

USMI sponsored Murry's wish and paid for all the adoption costs, as well as her birthday party.
