GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport is caring for a giant loggerhead turtle.

This turtle weighs around 160 pounds. It was rescued during a dredging operation in Louisiana near the Chandelier Islands.

The director of the institute said the turtle is in good shape and will likely be returned to the wild sometime soon.

Institute for Marine Mammal Studies Director Dr. Moby Solangi said, "We give them veterinary care. We've taken blood samples, cultures, X-rays. We're getting them back to health and then they'll be released."

Along with the 160 pound turtle, they are also caring for a second giant loggerhead. That turtle weighs about 100 pounds.
