Crab traps must be removed from the sound

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - An emergency order has been issued requiring the removal of all crab traps from all Mississippi territorial marine waters by 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 28th. This order was issued by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

This removal requirement is a result of oil sightings in the area and the potential impact on Mississippi's coastal marine resources.

Anyone retaining any marine species from the closed area is required to immediately return them to the waters.

The Mississippi Sound waters were already under precautionary closure to all commercial and recreational fishing. This includes all species of finfish, crabs, shrimp and oysters.
