BP Spill hurting coast businessman

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Coast businessman Steve Bullock says his business is one of the many suffering because of the BP oil spill. Bullock's Coast Cycle World in Gulfport sells motorcycles, ATV's and personal watercraft.

He said it is immensely difficult to sell someone a jet ski, when the perception is that the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf of Mexico are filled with oil.

"I've had some really good years and some down years. I tended to think it was coming back a little this year," Bullock said.

But then, the Deepwater Horizon explosion happened in late April. Peak season for the sale of personal watercraft. For Steve Bullock's business, the timing could not have been worse.

"We have had a 56 percent decrease in sales, since the oil spill," Bullock said.

Bullock has filed a claim with BP, and he insists all the requested paper work is in order, but they have heard nothing. Finally, on Tuesday, Steve's father called BP.

"They said somebody was going to call him back," he said. "We are still waiting for that call. Frustrated, that's what we are, frustrated."

Bullock said he will try to remain optimistic and is hopeful that his store, in business since 1984, can weather this crisis.
