MEMPHIS, TN (WLOX) - Karen Abernathy and Jeff Shepard are at St. Jude Research Children's Research Hospital in Memphis where researchers like Biloxi native Racquel Collins-Underwood are helping kids beat cancer. Collins-Underwood went to D'Iberville High School.

The five year goal is to improve the children's childhood cancer survival rate from 80 percent to 90 percent.

Starting August 17, you can help children with cancer become survivors by buying a St. Jude Dream Home ticket. Besides helping save lives, you could even win a $565,000 home in Tradition.

Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased at Edgewater Mall, First Bank & Trust, Tradition, Allen Automotive and Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Karen & Shep talked with Mississippi native Ashley Carr who is the Child Life Specialist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis about what she does and how important it is to her. Carr helps the children and their families cope while the child is battling cancer.

They also interviewed a St. Jude patient at a Target House apartment. A Target House is where families with children being treated stay for long periods of time stay.

The Dream Home Giveaway will air on WLOX on November 14, 2010.
