GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) – The city of Gulfport is taking a second look at how it's spending BP's money.  The city was given $2 million in grants to aid oil clean up.

The city has made several purchases including ATVs for the police department, and a fire boat for the fire department.

"What ever we buy we want to make sure it's the right thing, and it's handled the right way so we have some adjustments," said Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel.

The mayor also explained that some of the purchases may be returned or transferred to other agencies that may have a better use for the items.

"Even though the money is coming from BP… we don't want to spend any of our money unwisely," said Schloegel.

The spending was suppose to be addressed in a city council meeting on July,6, but Schloegel pulled it from the agenda last minute.

The mayor said it was pulled in order to further review the spending.
