BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The gated booms on the Wolf River and Bayou Portage in West Harrison County have been closed to keep out oil intrusion. Harrison County Emergency management officials say tar balls have been washing up into the area. Closing the boom gate is a precautionary measure. Boom tenders are in place to monitor boat traffic. The gated booms have been in place for some time, with openings or "gates" allowing boats to come and go. With the gates closed, boater will have to be allowed through as needed.
