Pascagoula asks BP for another $400k

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Pascagoula is asking for more money from BP to help purchase oil fighting tools.

The city received $1.3 million to buy cleanup supplies and dump trucks. Officials are now asking for another $400,000 for more haz-mat equipment and storage units.

"I think we want to be good steward of money," said Bruce Knott with Pascagoula's Human Resources Department. "And even though it is not taxpayers' money, if other communities needed it, we don't want to be selfish and just ask for things we didn't need. We fully understood what we were faced with, then we realized we need to ask for more."

Pascagoula officials say one of their main focuses is to protect the city's newly, expanded multi-million dollar beach.
