GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A man shot by a Gulfport police officer overnight is expected to make a full recovery. A spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety told WLOX News the man was shot once, causing injuries to his hand and neck.
The shooting happened after police were called to the Columns Apartments on Courthouse Road shortly before midnight Sunday for a report that shots had been fired. Officials say when officers arrived, they were confronted by a man with a weapon. An officer fired his gun and struck the suspect.
The man who has not been identified was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is expected to complete its investigation later this week and turn over the findings to the Harrison County District Attorney's Office to be presented to a Grand Jury.
