Crab Festival draws crowds to Bay St. Louis

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Leaders in Bay St. Louis say the seafood found at the 26th annual Crab Festival is fresh, tasty and ready to eat.

Organizers of the festival say ordering their seafood early was key to ensuring they'd have enough seafood for the entire weekend.

But if seafood is not your thing, there is lots of other food to be had. Organizers say it will be a weekend of live music arts and crafts booths and carnival rides for the children.

"We've really been surprised at how the fair is going so far," Crab Festival Committee Member Mike Gibbens said. "We've cooked 600 pounds of boiled crab in the last two hours and about 100 pounds of shrimp. And we've all been kind of skeptical of how the fair was going to be this weekend, not only because of the oil, but because of the weather. But so far it looks like it's going to be successful, just as it has in the past."

The festival is being held on the grounds of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church on the beach in downtown Bay St. Louis.
