The Vice President comes to Gulf Coast to survey oil situation

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - Vice President Joe Biden will be in Louisiana and Florida today to assess the ongoing efforts to counter the BP oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. Biden is expected to get a briefing on Gulf oil response efforts and tour the Unified Area Command facility in New Orleans.

Among those participating in the briefing will be Incident Commander Admiral Thad Allen, U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

The Vice President will also meet with Gulf residents impacted by the coastal crisis at a seafood business. He will then travel to Pensacola, Florida to meet with leaders there including Florida Governor Charlie Crist.

The Vice President is expected to make statements to the press both in New Orleans and Pensacola and later today on wlox.com and WLOX News we will have his comments.
