BILOXI – (WLOX) Jarvis Varnado returned to Mississippi St. to improve his offensive game, and block some more shots. He did both of those those things, and tonight he was rewarded for his hard work.

The Miami Heat drafted Varnado with the 41st pick of the 2nd round in the 2010 NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Varnado averaged 14 points and nearly 5 blocks a game during his senior season in Maroon and White. For the second straight year, he blocked 170 shots. He finished his career with 564 swats, making him the NCAA's all-time blocks leader.

Varnado is the first MSU player to be drafted since Lawrence Roberts in the 2005 draft.
