USM students hear the call to help stock shelves

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - This week the United Way of South Mississippi has been asking everyone to help stock the shelves of our local soup kitchens and food pantries. The United Way put the appeal for food donations out at the beginning of the week saying there is a need right now because of the economy and the impact of the BP oil leak.

Food pantries and soup kitchens across the coast continue to see an increase in people seeking help.

One of the groups that has been holding a food drive this week to help is USM Gulf Coast. Later today students will deliver the dry goods they have collected to Gulf Coast Community Ministries, which is the food pantry they chose to help.

You too can still make a donation yourself to the soup kitchen or food pantry of your choice.

WLOX News Trang Bui will be there when the USM students make their delivery and she will have more on the efforts to restock local food pantry and soup kitchen shelves later today on and WLOX News.
