BAY ST LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, along with the Humphreys County Sheriff's Office, have solved the murder of a McEwen, TN, woman who was found dead by her family members outside her home on June 12, 2010.

The suspect, 48-year-old Wendell Joe Tummins of Cumberland Furnace, TN, was arrested Thursday morning in Bay St. Louis and is in custody in Mississippi.

TBI and the Humphreys County Sheriff's Office developed Tummins as a suspect and obtained warrants for first degree murder and aggravated burglary.

Law enforcement believed he fled the state after beating to death 42-year-old Patty Williams Ford at her residence in McEwen, TN last week.

He also stole guns from her home. Family members discovered blood in Ford's home the day before her body was discovered in a wooded area.

Tummins has a criminal history that includes disorderly conduct, domestic assault and promoting the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Tummins is currently in jail awaiting extradition.
