USM Gulf Coast holds conference on community resilience & Hurricane Katrina

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Scholars from around the world who have conducted community resilience research following Hurricane Katrina are meeting at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach Friday and Saturday, June 4-5.

The conference called "Returning to Katrina: Bringing Hurricane Research Back to the Community" is an opportunity for the scholars to share their post-Katrina research with the communities they once studied.

Southern Miss Gulf Coast sponsored the summit in partnership with the Community and Regional Resilience Institute (CARRI) and the Center for Policy and Resilience (CPR). The groups have worked together for more than two years to research and advocate resilience planning in the rebuilding process on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Meggan Gray stopped by the conference this morning and will have more on what the scholars are talking about later today on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
