PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - An Ocean Springs man wanted for crimes across four states was finally captured early Thursday morning by police in Picayune.

Around 1:23 Thursday morning, Officer Ettienne Mixon pulled over a driver on Highway 43 North for driving erratically. When Officer Mixon approached the car, the driver sped off, and a chase ensued.

During what became a high speed pursuit, the officer learned that the vehicle was stolen from South Carolina.

The chase finally ended when the fleeing suspect lost control on a curve and flipped the vehicle several times before coming to a stop on Sycamore Road. Officer Mixon then ran to the aid of the driver, who was calling for an ambulance.

The suspect was eventually identified as Terrence James Hardy, 51, of Ocean Springs. He first gave police another name, which they found to be an alias taken by Hardy in an alleged identity theft several years ago. He's still wanted for that crime in Florida.

Investigators soon found even more incriminated evidence inside the wrecked vehicle: several thousand dollars in U.S. currency, a Federal Reserve Bank bag and paper work that placed Hardy in Jackson, Tennessee on June 2, 2010. Police in Jackson, TN reported a bank robbery that same day.

Investigators now believe Hardy was also involved in a bank robbery May 18 in Hattiesburg, and yet another in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Hardy is being held as a suspect in those three robberies in addition to his original charges filed by Picayune Police. Those include careless driving, improper lane usage, running a stop sign, D.U.I. 1st offense, possession of paraphernalia, receiving stolen property, failure to yield to blue lights, and having an open beer.
