Police identify New Orleans man shot, killed in Moss Point

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Moss Point Police have identified the man who was shot and killed at a home Sunday. Police said Cornelious Ferrande, 23, of New Orleans was shot in the chest.

Investigators said Ferrande was going door to door in the neighborhood around Wembley Drive asking residents for money or a ride to the bus station. Witnesses said they turned Ferrande away, and saw him go to the home of Charles and Nita Ray.

Witness told police they saw Ferrande wrap clothing around his hand and try to open the front door. They then saw him go around to the back door, where he was confronted by the homeowners.

Police said the Rays spoke with Ferrande, but that soon afterwards, gun fire erupted in the kitchen area. Ferrande was shot in the chest, Mr. Ray was shot in the hand and on his side. Mrs. Ray was shot once in the face.

Investigators believe Ferrande was at the home to commit a crime, but aren't officially saying anything about a motive. They're asking anyone with information to please contact the Moss Point Police Department at (228) 475-1711.
