BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County officials say objects that washed up on the beach in Biloxi are being investigated to determine if they are remnants from BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig.
Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy told WLOX News two pieces of foam material washed up on the beach in front of Edgewater Mall in Biloxi. One piece is 15 feet long; The other is three to four feet long.
Lacy went to the beach to check out the material and said its markings and composition will be investigated to determine if the foam chunks are from the rig that exploded April 20.
Lacy said the U.S. Coast Guard was picking up the material.
Debris that washed up a few hours later near the Pass Christian Harbor is also being investigated. Lacy said a crew from Transocean is taking a look at the items found.
