Saints Coach Sean Payton takes a dig at cancer

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - With one flick of the shovel, Sean Payton kicked off the campaign to give away a free house in South Mississippi.

"The work that St. Jude does is unparalleled," Payton said.

The tickets for the $565,000 home in the Village of Tradition actually go on sale August 17th. Coach Payton is teaming up with St. Jude to raise money to help patients like South Mississippi's Briana Cuevas fight and beat cancer.

"You look around and you think, there should be crying children and stuff like that. But everybody's so happy around there that you wouldn't guess that it's a hospital," Briana said about St. Jude.

The house at Tradition will indeed be a dream home to the lucky person who wins it. President of Tradition Gerald Blessey said this partnership was a no-brainer.

"One of our core values is 'Excellence in Health & Wellness.' And we think we have a great example of national excellence in St. Jude and the St. Jude Dream Home," Blessey said. "We're glad to have coach Payton here and his Play It Forward Foundation. That's another example of excellence."

Construction on the home has already started, with the raffle set to take place in November.

Only 6,500 tickets will be sold and as Coach Payton points out, the new house is just the physical part of this raffle.

"To understand, really, that the end result of this is giving away a home, but really taking money and helping fight cancer and helping St. Jude fight cancer. And that's pretty good," Payton said.

15-year-old Briana Cuevas just received the news two weeks ago that she is in remission and cancer free!

Raffle tickets will be $100 each.
