D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - A D'Iberville man believed responsible for ten burglaries is under arrest, and Police Chief Wayne Payne said "concerned citizens" made it happen.

Investigators say Marshall Smith, 19, would target unlocked vehicles all over the city, so many victims never even knew their belongings were stolen.

Chief Payne said the arrest resulted from a call from the community. He said concerned citizens "apprehended Marshall red-handed; breaking into vehicles. The good Samaritans held Smith until police arrived."

Captain Keith Davis said a follow up investigation uncovered several other burglaries for which Smith was responsible. Investigators have recovered more than $3,000 worth of property and returned it to owners.

Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain imposed a "No Bond" order on Smith, since he was already out on bond for burglary. Chief Payne said this case is a clear indication of how effective reducing crime in the community can be when the "community" gets involved. Chief Payne said he wishes to thank the Good Samaritan who assisted with the apprehension.
