BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward says his company is ready to pay the tourism advertising bill for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
In an exclusive interview with WLOX News Anchor Jeff Lawson, Hayward said he made that pledge to Governor Haley Barbour Wednesday.
"I have said to the governor, I said to him yesterday when we met that we would support him and his advertising campaign," Hayward told WLOX Thursday.
The Harrison County Tourism Commission said Wednesday it needed $7.5 million a month to advertise nationally that the Mississippi Gulf Coast is open for business. Tourism leaders say they need the money to overcome the bad publicity from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hayward did not say specifically how much money BP would be willing to spend on the advertising blitz.
