LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Mayor Billy Skellie and the Board of Alderman met to discuss possible annexation plans Tuesday during a work session.

The city has considered annexing the Long Beach Industrial Park for quite some time now. But, this meeting focused on another annexation plan that would expand the city to the north.

The annexation would push Long Beach's city limits up north to Landon Road with Espy Road as the city's west border and Turner Road as the east border.

"That would take in the County Line/Beatline Road interchange and give us that opportunity for growth, but that is very preliminary," Skellie said.

Mayor Skellie points to development like USM building a second campus in that area. Skellie said he would like to see both campuses inside the Long Beach city limits.

"It could be beneficial both ways for the city and residents in that area."

Skellie said the city is still in the early, planning phases for both annexation plans. The first step would be to secure an annexation study. The city is working to secure a grant to foot the $10,000 bill for the study.
