Vessels of Opportunity training in the Bay


BAY ST LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Hancock County Emergency Management Director Brian Adam invited boat owners to a Vessels of Opportunity training session.

Here are the main points on the Sunday May 9th Vessels of Opportunity training session.

  • BP invites vessel owners along the Mississippi Gulf Coast (i.e. shrimp and oyster boats, fishing vessels) who are interested in serving as vessels for hire to participate in the Vessels of Opportunity Program.
  • Vessel operators that opt to participate in this program will become available to assist in shoreline protection activities.
  • To participate in the Vessels of Opportunity Program, vessel owners are invited to a 3 hour BP Safety & Induction Training Session starting at 3:00 pm at the Bay High School Auditorium located at 750 Blue Meadow Road in Bay St. Louis, MS on Sunday, May 9, 2010.
  • The response contractors for the Vessels of Opportunity program will need information such as the name of the vessel owner

The boat's dimensions and other characteristics including length, draft, horsepower, and other information such as whether members of the crew are HAZWOPER trained (40 hour training).

At the conclusion of the Safety & Induction Training Session, vessel owners will be provided a copy of the Vessels of Opportunity Program charter agreement and will have the opportunity to opt in.

Vessel owners that participate in shoreline protection activities will be paid for their services. For additional information, please call (228) 466-8320.
