GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Seabee Day 2010 kicked off Saturday in Gulfport. The annual event brought in hundreds of people. We talked to Seabees about why this day is such a significant one for them.

Military demonstrations are just one of the main attractions at the 5th Annual Seabee Day. Kids of all ages were able to test out weapons used in the line of duty.

Chief David Borkowski said, "Getting the community onto the Seabee Base to see what we do to interact with us to see what we do more often."

Borkowski said this is a great opportunity for not only Seabee families but for the public to enjoy entertainment and family fun while at the same time sending a message to outside supporters.

"Just making aware we care about them as much as they care about us," said Borkowski.

Chief Borkowski said the money raised from food vendors supports other activities on base.

"Everybody's trying to make a little money to support other events that we do supporting ourselves, whether it's flowers for a funeral or clothes for a baby," Borkowski said.

This event highlighted the missions and many accomplishments of the men and women of the Naval Construction Force.
