Take the pledge, don't text & drive

We applaud the Ocean Springs High School students who recently signed a pledge to not text while they are driving.

During the program teens and adults shared their stories of the dangers involved when you text and drive. One student told about her car being hit by another teen driver who was texting and suddenly swerved. Thank goodness no one was injured. But stories like this and others point out the dangers of texting while driving.

This program was part of a national AT&T campaign. Local regional director Kathleen Shaughnessy told the crowd, it's that couple of seconds that can take your life away.

Oprah Winfrey is also asking you not to text and drive. She has created a no phone zone pledge, that you can sign that says you won't text and drive.

We urge you to take the pledge. Nothing is that important. If you need to send a message, pull over. Please take the pledge, don't text and drive, it could just save your life and others.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
