GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Coast Guard station is expecting a 175-foot cutter and another large vessel both with skims to arrive Sunday night.

The 175-foot boat is coming out of Galveston, TX. The 225 foot ship is out of Florida. Both will have skimming capabilities.

They do not know where they will be deployed yet, but they will have more information  on Monday.

Commander Brandt Martin said other Coast Guard members are coming from around the country to assist with skimming operations.

Gulfport has always had some skimming equipment available but not enough to deal with the magnitude.

Coast Guard Gulfport is doing daily patrols, as they would always do. They are also watching for the boaters, commercial and pleasure.

They just met with Gulfport City Council to brief them on what they are doing while maintaining its normal duties which is usually search and rescue.

Brandt said, "We don't want to be booming Bert Jones until absolutely necessary because we don't want to shut of boat traffic off."

1,000 feet of booms will be staged and ready to be put out. They will be working with the  harbormaster in Gulfport.
