Oil absorbing barrier may go up to protect Harrison Co. beaches
HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The state of Mississippi may try to put a barrier around the entire beachfront in Harrison County.
The state is considering making an emergency purchase of devices called Hesco Containers. It's basically containment fencing that would be filled with sand and oil containing gel. Twenty-five miles of the barrier would cost $5 million.
Officials say with 100 people working, the barrier could be in place in one day. The Sierra Club said they could have 200 volunteers in place to help.
