Search still on for 4th Chevron theft suspect

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Three Chevron contractors are under arrest for stealing pieces of refinery equipment and trading them for drugs, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd.

The sheriff said David Randall Goff of Saraland, Alabama and two others stole $20,000 to $30,000 in stainless steel fittings and traded them for the painkiller Oxycontin.

Investigators are still looking for Memphis Shane Riddle. There's a warrant out for his arrest on embezzlement and grand larceny charges. Sheriff Byrd said Riddle worked for an electrical contractor at Chevron, and was taking the refinery property, repackaging it and selling it in Louisiana and Alabama.

"It hurts the company. The company is doing everything it can to operate their business efficiently," Sheriff Mike Byrd said. "We have folks that are stealing, that are subcontractors, so that makes it harder for the business and more expensive for the business."

Byrd said the thefts at Chevron could have taken place over several years. He did not identify the two of the people arrested with Goff because they're cooperating with the investigation.
