Shooting ruled self defense

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says the man who was killed Thursday morning in D'Iberville has been identified as 37-year-old Paul Mahaffuy.

D'Iberville Police and the Harrison County District Attorney confirm that Mahaffuy was shot and killed in self defense.

Police say the shooting happened after 41-year-old Wilford Seymour opened his door and was reportedly hit with a hammer by Mahauffey. Police then say Seymour ran, got a gun and shot the man who hit him.

At this time, police say no charges will be filed against Seymour; however, evidence is being sent to the state crime lab.
