Third VP candidate addresses faculty and students

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - The third and final candidate for the Vice President position visited USM Gulf Coast Wednesday. Dr. Andrew Rogerson met with USM students during lunch at the Long Beach campus.

He listened to comments and answered questions from students who wanted to know what direction he would like to see the gulf coast campuses head in the future.

Rogerson told WLOX News that he believes USM Gulf Coast can play a key role in education on the gulf coast.

"I think I was trying to sell my vision that what we need to do is make a unique identity that this campus is a little bit distinct from Hattiesburg, so that we don't compete but can be in a synergeristic relationship," Rogerson said. "Of course, one way to that is to start looking at programs that would benefit the workforce of this particular region and the gulf."

Rogerson currently holds the position of Dean for the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University in Fresno. The President of USM, Dr. Martha Saunders, will meet with search committee sometime in the near future to hear their recommendation for the position.
