MDEQ lifts four beach advisories

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Three areas of the beach in Gulfport and one in Bay St. Louis are open once again. Wednesday, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) lifted advisories previously issued April 16.

The advisory was issued for the following stations:

  • Station 1 - near Lakeshore Drive, Bay St. Louis
  • Station 9 - near Pratt Avenue, Gulfport
  • Station 10 - U.S. Naval Home/Veterans Hospital near Oak Avenue, Gulfport
  • Station 10A - near Courthouse Road west parking lot, Gulfport.

Water samples show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels.

The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
