Jackson County Harbor preparing for new construction in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Several changes are taking place at the Jackson County Small Craft Harbor in Ocean Springs in preparation for construction of the new office and bulkhead replacement projects.

The small parking lot adjacent to the current Harbor Office is being converted into a construction staging area for heavy equipment and building materials this week. Residents will still have full access to the primary public parking lot nearest the Harbor's boat launches.

The Harbor Office is also being relocated into the staging area and will remain open with the same office hours throughout the construction.

Vehicle and pedestrian access to Harbor Road will not be affected by these changes.

County officials are tentatively planning a "pile driving ceremony" to mark the beginning of construction by mid-May.

"We know these changes could lead to some parking inconveniences; however the construction of the new Harbor Office and the total replacement of the Harbor's bulkhead is a major step forward in our recovery and rebuilding efforts from Hurricane Katrina," Harbor Master Lesley Hamm said.
