VP finalists begin visiting USM Gulf Coast

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - One of three finalists for the job of Vice President of USM Gulf Coast visited the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach Thursday.

Dr. Betsy Vogel-Boze met with the faculty, staff, students, and community leaders. Vogel-Boze is a Senior Fellow for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

The person chosen for the USM job will become a member of the USM President's Executive Cabinet, and have a say in all decisions concerning the university.

Boze said she has spent many summers on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and she is impressed with Gulf Park campus.

"There are so many opportunities here for growth and expansion and I find that really exciting," Dr. Vogel-Boze said. "But mostly it's about the mission, the community engagement, the student success mission, all of those, even the green environmental mission are all things that are very near and dear to my heart and things I have a lot of experience in and would look forward to being involved with."

The other two candidates will visit the Long Beach campus next Tuesday and Wednesday. Click here to read the resumes and cover letters of each candidate.

The person hired will replace Associate Provost Dr. Pat Joachim who is retiring on June 30.
